Scholarship
LIAA EDUCATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP
PURPOSE
LIAA supports students pursuing an education in a field of study dedicated to arboriculture, urban forestry, horticulture, or other plant material-oriented fields. The organization will grant one scholarship award in the amount of $1,000 to a recipient annually. The purpose of this award is to promote interest in trees and assist students with their education-related expenses. LIAA will also provide the scholarship recipient with a full symposium registration and a free 1-year membership to the organization.
These awards shall be non-discriminatory with respect to race, color, sex, religion, age, national origin, or sexual orientation.
REQUIREMENTS FOR APPLICATION
- The applicant must be EITHER a student enrolled at an accredited four-year college, two-year college, or university in New York, OR a resident of Long Island who is enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited four-year college, two-year college, or university outside of New York.
- The applicant’s major field of study shall be arboriculture or a related program, such as botany, entomology, horticulture, plant pathology, urban forestry, or a related field.
- The applicant must have completed at least one college semester of a program leading to a degree or career in one of the above majors or related.
- The applicant shall submit the scholarship application form, an official transcript of grades, one recommendation from a professor or green industry employer, and a 500-word essay describing his/her interest, goals, and accomplishments related to his/her chosen field of study.
APPLICATION DEADLINE
All applications must be received by January 24, 2022. The winner will be notified and will receive the award at our Symposium on February 8. More information will be available on our website.
